Midday Lenten Worship & Lunch: Middle of Nowhere
Wednesdays • 11:30am
March 12, 19, 26, April 2, 9
Lunch to follow!
Lent is always a good time to experiment with worship, and this year the Looking Within Center will host Wednesday Midday Prayer Around the Cross at 11:30 a.m. Have you ever felt like you’re in the middle of nowhere? Sometimes we retreat to the cabin. Sometimes we’re lost in the wilderness. Sometimes home is shifting under our feet and we can’t figure out where we are or where we’re headed. Come explore the middle of nowhere on Wednesday mornings this Lent.
Each week we’ll gather around the cross to pray, hear Scripture, contemplate images, consider a reflection, light candles, and savor reflective music (including Taize). Then, we’ll eat lunch together! Hosted by Julie Stevens, Hayden Kvamme, and Chris Roberts.
We will also have midday worship on Maundy Thursday (April 17) and Good Friday (April 18) at 11:30am in the Looking Within Center.

Lenten Dinner
WEDNESDAYS • 5:15PM
MARCH 12, 19, 26, APRIL 2, 9
Everyone is invited to join us for dinner before heading to Water’s Edge on Wednesday nights during Lent! We’ll be having buffet style meals in the Garden Lounge with a freewill donation. Everyone is invited! (Just no pets, please). See you there!

Water's Edge During Lent
In 1985, Howard Jones dropped a song called, “No one is to blame”.
The first verse says, “You can look at the menu, but you just can’t eat. You can feel the cushions, but you can’t have a seat. You can dip your foot in the pool, but you can’t have a swim. You can feel the punishment, but you can’t commit the sin. No one, no one, no one ever is to blame.”
Occasionally, life seems impossible, and try as we might, we can’t see our way through it. When this happens, it’s easy to lose hope or give up trying; it’s easy to believe that nothing will ever change.
But as the saying goes,
God makes a way where there is no way.
Join us at Water’s Edge for our Lenten Series: “No way! Way.” where we will hear stories about how God finds a way in impossible situations. Sometimes we are invited to break down barriers, and create new approaches, and sometimes to just pause, listen, wait, and imagine a way where there is no way...

Palm Festival
Sunday, April 13 • 9:30-10:30 am
Join us for our annual Palm Festival with family activities! At this event, we will mark the beginning of Holy Week. We will learn about Jesus’ final entry into Jerusalem and work together on a community project.
FUN FOR ALL AGES!
We are looking for volunteers of any age and experience level! It would be great to see some middle or high schoolers volunteer to help with the activities and crafts too! This will allow families to be able to participate together.

Three Days - Maundy Thursday
When we walk up to a doorway, almost anything can happen.
Sometimes the door has a “Welcome Mat” and we are met by the warmth of good friends.
Sometimes the door which had been open suddenly slams shut, and we are turned away.
Sometimes the door opens and we are invited into a whole new world filled with exciting possibilities.
Someone famous once said, “All beginnings are delightful; the threshold is the place to pause.” This year for the Three Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil we will pause in the doorway that leads us through the old, old story of Jesus and his love, and continues into your life and something new. Are you ready to experience what awaits you there in the Threshold? Join us for ONE worship service in THREE parts.
Part One, Maundy Thursday: A Welcome Mat - Thursday, April 17, 7:00pm
Experience the “Welcome Mat” at the doorway as friends gather for a night of conversation, food, and connection. We will gather around tables filled with candles, bread, wine, juice, and friends. We’ll remember when Jesus gathered one last time with his people in a low lit room and reminded them to love one another. At the end of the night we’ll walk through the door and prepare for the next threshold when the worship experience continues on Friday night.
Part Two, Good Friday: A Door Slam - Friday, April 18, 7:00pm
Sometimes life can change in the blink of an eye, the snap of a finger, the ring of a phone, and the slamming of a door. Dreams that once seemed certain come to an end, and we are left wondering what comes next.
This night we encounter a place of endings and vulnerability. Even in the uncertainty and questions, Christ meets us. With the sudden slam of the door, transformation and something new begins. The service will once again pause, until we begin again at the third and final door on Saturday night.
Part Three, Easter Vigil: A New Door Opens - Saturday, April 19, 7:30pm
Have you ever walked up to a new door, and upon walking through it, life was never the same? Maybe it was a new job, or a new school, or a new relationship. You walked up to the door with memories of hurt and failure in tow, but on the other side new life, new hope, new joy, and a new day was in store. The evening begins outside by a fire, we will light candles, and walk through the doors of the building for a night of storytelling. This Easter night we open the door that leads from darkness to light, from mourning to dancing, from death to life. The night will conclude with the first proclamation of Easter, and a giant feast that can’t be beat!

Charles will give us three simple and practical ideas about being more able to hear God, in all seasons, but especially in those seasons of difficulty.
Charles Ortloff is a spiritual director and retired pastor whose deep wisdom and valuable insights come from years on the spiritual journey. His recent personal walk with stage four cancer is leading him to help others to welcome cancer, or any challenge or "guest" on the journey, for the unexpected gifts that challenges can bring into our lives.

Join us for a book launch event in support of “The Great Search: Turning to Earth and Soul in the Quest for Healing and Home,” the latest work by noted Celtic teacher and author of spirituality, John Philip Newell. In his new book, John Philip explores the great spiritual yearnings of humanity today in the midst of the decline of religion as we have known it. Newell argues that the urgent challenges of this moment are not only ecological, political, and economic, they are also spiritual. He writes, “...there is a quest of soul today, for new depths of wisdom to guide us into wellbeing, both individually and together.”
You don't need to have read the book before the event, but if you choose to, it is available for purchase from your favorite bookseller.

Youth Band Auditions
This Fall, we are making moves to evolve our Wednesday night ministries: Confirmation, GDYG, and Water's Edge. We want our youth to be more active and empowered during Water's Edge, and one way we're seeking to do that is by inviting them to play music with us!
Here's where you come in: We are excited to announce the formation of a new youth-led band and invite students from grades 6-12 to audition! This is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to develop their skills, perform with peers, and have a lot of fun.
Audition Details:
Date: Sunday, August 25th
Time: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Location: Gloria Dei Sanctuary
Whether you play an instrument or sing, we would love to see your talent! Please prepare a short piece that showcases your abilities.
In addition to musicians, we are also looking for volunteers to help run slide presentations and assist with sound management. If you have an interest in these areas, please let us know!
This youth-led band will be a vital part of leading our weekly Wednesday worship service. We are excited to share that our Wednesday night worship experience is changing, and we want you to be a part of it!
To sign up for an audition slot or volunteer position, or if you have any questions, please fill out this google form.
We look forward to hearing you play and working with our volunteers!
Best regards,
Emily and Chris
