Event Description
Imagine driving to an unfamiliar destination. While on the way, you notice that your GPS device has lost its signal and is of no value. Then, you discover that you have misplaced all of your maps. Add to this, the roads have no signs and you meet no people along the way to ask for directions. The usual markers are gone. What a nightmare this would be!

As we get older, our lives feel more and more like this story. We are moving towards unfamiliar destinations without any of the usual markers to guide us. In our younger days, our experiences from the past were good markers for what to expect in the future and how to plan our journey, but not so much as we age, especially after we turn 40. The old markers of our youth offer us less and less guidance as we face things like an aging body, a mind that is just a little more forgetful, a life threatening illness, being an empty nester, the “golden years” of retirement, the death of a partner, and fears about our own death and dying. When facing the really tough questions of the second half of life, we find no good answers, only bad answers and worse answers. How do we make sense of life when the old markers from our past no longer work?

Join Charles Ortloff, a spiritual director and retired pastor, for an evening of stories, helping us to see unexpected new markers that lead us onto a pleasant, new path for the second half of life’s journey.

A Note on Masking: All community members, vaccinated and non-vaccinated, are encouraged to wear masks as we gather for activities within Gloria Dei or within Gloria Dei partner facilities.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) have a classification system for when face coverings are recommended indoors to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Olmsted County has now reached the threshold for when these recommendations go into effect. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for wearing your masks regardless of vaccination status.
